Since becoming a licensed attorney in 2018, Trey Cooke has dedicated his entire professional career to defending the rights of the accused. Trey began his career managing the criminal defense department of a boutique law firm in Wilmington, North Carolina. After five years in that role Trey moved on to the New Hanover County Public Defender’s Office where he specialized in serious felony cases. In his eight years of practicing, Trey has represented thousands of people for offenses ranging from simple traffic tickets to murder. Trey understands when rights and liberty are at stake, there is no such thing as a “simple case” and he provides zealous advocacy for all clients in pursuit of the best outcome possible in every matter.
Trey’s passion for criminal defense work stems all the way back to high school where he volunteered as a Teen Court Attorney for the Capital Area Teen Court Program. Trey studied Criminal Justice at Appalachian State University before heading to Campbell Law School. During law school, Trey was a member of the Pro Bono Visitation Project with the Center for Death Penalty Litigation, taught Restorative Justice Classes in federal prison, and led as Vice President of the Campbell Law Innocence Project. During his career, Trey has served on the Board of Directors for HIGHTS (a non-profit that provides juvenile intervention services) and received an award from the North Carolina Pro Bono Honor Society for his commitment to pro bono legal work.
In 2026, alongside his wife Monique Kreisman and their cat (Siena) and two dogs (Ginsburg and Kenny), Trey moved from the quiet east coast beach town of Wilmington, NC to Southern California. When he is not in court, Trey can be found deep in nature on one of his many bicycles or motorcycles.
